The Jumpshadow Collective was established in 2007 to promote the perspective of emergent designers. The collective has migrant participation that networks through web communication. The collaboration, therefore, develops uniquely because participation happens with minimal space and hierarchical restrictions. A design idea may sprout from the cracks of the urban east coast designer and develop with the perspective of the rural west coast designer. These thoughtful, architectural perspectives are broadened by the varying landscapes and social microcosms of its participants.

Past projects include wetCORE, a published entry in the 99K House Competition of Houston, Texas; eTRAP, a competition submission for electronic waste recycling; and hydroLOGIC, a furniture installation of 3000 found plastic water bottles that provided a place of respite+intrigue for a community garden in Brooklyn.

New Orleans raised Jumpshadow Collective member JENNIFER HISER (JHi). Her work is greatly influenced by the established character and community of her original surroundings. However, her approach matured since the waters rose, the levees failed, and homes were razed. While she always aims to provoke positive human interaction, often with an idiosyncratic method, JHi also designs with an activist’s intent. She strongly believes in ecological community-building and hopes to provoke people to transform OUR communal spaces.
